About Oud & Rouge

Oud & Rouge isn't built around release schedules or ingredient breakdowns — it's built around wear. Air conditioning and open heat, morning light and midnight, rain, sun, the beach, the mountains, the city, and yes, even the pillow.

Call it a journal, not a publication. I write about how a fragrance actually moves through a day — which notes hold their nerve, which ones quietly give up — with the occasional detour into ingredients or industry gossip, never as the headline, always as a footnote.

The name is half mine and half borrowed. Rouge is who I am online. Oud is the ingredient itself — grown and distilled in some of the hottest countries on earth, then, ironically, written off by cooler-climate reviewers as too heavy to wear in the heat. Oud & Rouge exists to test that assumption.

How things are tested

Every fragrance in the collection is worn at least three times, on skin, across different weather, before it gets written up. Nothing is reviewed from a paper strip alone and nothing is reviewed from a single wearing. Where a fragrance has been reformulated, the batch and year are noted, because a 2014 bottle and a 2026 bottle are frequently not the same fragrance.

Disclosure

Most bottles here were bought at full price. Where something was sent by a house, it is labelled as a gifted sample in the write-up, every time, without exception. Gifted samples are not reviewed more gently — but you should always know which is which and decide for yourself.
